For Adults
Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their oral health and they want to feel better about their appearance.
Why should you consider orthodontic treatment?
- Straight teeth are healthy teeth — Teeth that are properly aligned are easier to clean with flossing and brushing, and aligned teeth may help prevent other dental problems that are complex to treat later on.
- A beautiful, straight smile builds confidence — Orthodontic treatment can help boost your self-confidence, giving you the freedom to smile without holding back.
The difference between adult orthodontics and orthodontics for children and teens:
One main difference between treating adults and children/teens is that the jawbones of younger patients are still developing. For adults, these bones have stopped growing and this may change treatment options. In some adults, orthognathic surgery is necessary to correct a malocclusion.
Adults are more likely than children to have gum recession or bone loss and periodontal issues may require treatment before and/or during orthodontic treatment. Adults are also more likely than young patients to have worn, missing teeth or shifted teeth that makes treatment more complex.
Our practice recognizes that adults and children have different needs, and require a different level of attention and care. We will work with you to ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatments, and that your needs are met with understanding and respect from us.
